Tom Wood Aviation KUMP Pilot Reviews

Excellent maintenance team. Called to roughly schedule a VFR transponder check on an experimental open cockpit biplane. They were very flexible and understanding of weather/wind conditions that could preclude safe operation. Aimed for a week that looked promising, and called them before launching to verify they could still fit me in. Arrived and marshaled right in front of the hangar where two technicians immediately performed the inspection. Went to the FBO to settle up and got underway. Very reasonable cost—10/10.

Conveniently situated in Fishers, quite near several excellent dining options. The FBO is quite rigid regarding crew car usage, limiting it to under one hour, and they denied us use during dinner hours for a sit-down meal. Securing an Uber proved exceptionally slow from this location.

This is an excellent independent FBO. They offer several courtesy cars and a very attentive staff. Numerous restaurants and lodging options are situated very near the airport.

I arrived at 11:30 AM on Friday. There were three gentlemen behind the desk. I sent a fuel release request for the Titan, which goes to the 'bosses' email address. Unfortunately, he is out today, and they do not have access to his inbox. That was surprising.

I picked up a passenger and used KUMP as I always thought they were more friendly to small airplanes than the other airports around Indy. When I taxied to the ramp, no one was present to direct me to a parking spot. I left my engine running and my passenger boarded, only to receive a $150 ramp fee bill. Yes, I'm flying a jet—a single-engine jet (SF50) that doesn't weigh any more than a TBM, M600, etc. (they have jet engines too, in case anyone was wondering.) I will be using KTQY in the future.
