April 30, 2023Stopped in on Sunday 4/23/23. When we landed around 11:30 am, nobody was present. I would advise calling ahead if you plan on stopping for fuel, as there was no means to obtain it with no staff available.

January 21, 2023Flew in 2/13/23. A nice, quiet airport. The runway is smooth, although the surface isn't the cleanest around. The usable taxiways are good (many taxiways are blocked off, including the old Navy strip). There was zero activity; I literally did not see another aircraft in the pattern or parked anywhere on the field, not even in the weeds. It felt a bit like the Twilight Zone! What drew me in was the inexpensive fuel. There is ample ramp space available. A mechanic shop operates on the field, but I recommend calling ahead if you require their services. This airport and ONX (just across the state border) typically offer the best prices in the Hampton Roads region. The current price reflects what is listed on FS as of this date. There is no self-serve (SS) pump yet (they are working on getting one). I was unable to receive the ASOS until about 10 miles out, which was surprising given that the surrounding area is flat for many miles, and the ASOS signals from nearby airports are usually audible 15-25 miles away. I met Trev, the airport manager, who was very pleasant and provided me with a lot of information regarding the local area and the history of this former Navy facility.
