Sparta Municipal Airport 8D4 Pilot Reviews

Wonderful airport and community! Apt Mgr Mike called to inform me I had a low tire. By the time I arrived, he had reinflated it and confirmed the leak. Within thirty minutes, he introduced me to the 8D4 community. One person had a spare tube, others showed up with necessary tools, and still others, including an IA, came by to assist. This all occurred while Young Eagles and an AOPA Rusty Pilot seminar were taking place. Furthermore, they feature a lovely runway, brand new ramp and tie-downs, three crew cars, and very fair prices for 100LL fuel!

Wonderful airport with very easy access to downtown Grand Rapids. Several courtesy cars are available, with no fees for landing or tie down. The staff are very friendly. Fuel prices are competitive.

Huge shout out to Marty and the City of Sparta for an excellent experience! As a transient GA pilot, my primary requirements for an airport/FBO are straightforward: 24hr fuel, an accessible restroom, and a courtesy vehicle. Sparta provides all three. I was unaware that the AWOS requires two clicks to activate—just a heads up for others. I managed to get fuel very easily; the credit card terminal is perhaps the best and simplest I have encountered. The fuel hose retractor was non-operational, but apparently, this is a known problem they are addressing with a replacement. There are limited tie-down locations, and some are quite close to the fuel pump. Exercise caution in that vicinity, and remember to bring your own ropes and tiedowns. The door code is published in the Chart Supplement—that is a fantastic practice I rarely observe at other facilities. I encountered some unforeseen weather delays, and Marty was superb in assisting me with arranging the courtesy car, advising on the best accommodations, and so forth. Extremely friendly and very helpful. I will certainly plan on coming back.
